When it comes to a list of the most dangerous or debilitating diseases, mental disorders
such as anxiety, depression, bi-polar and schizophrenia rank among the highest of them all, surpassing even such killers as Ebola and HIV. It is hard to overestimate the immense impact of such diseases on the lives of all involved, and as such they deserve the fullest
attention when attempting to analyze, understand and hopefully treat them.
So how can we see anxiety, depression, bi-polar or schizophrenia through astrology?
And how can we diagnose their origin?
Common Denominator
An obvious common denominator when dealing with any mental disorder is of course the Moon, and the same is true for these four as well. In fact, all four require an affliction of the moon by either Saturn, Rahu or Ketu, with the type of affliction often dictating which of them will manifest.
Fear and sadness – Saturn
An affliction by Saturn will quite often produce various forms of anxiety or depression, with a conjunction or 3rd aspect being more likely to produce anxiety while a 7th or 10th aspects being more likely to produce depression.
In cases of anxiety, in addition to the influence form Saturn the Moon will often be in a fiery sign or under the influence of a fiery planet, resulting in the agitation experienced. Alternatively, it can be positioned in the 6th house of worries and responsibilities. Cases of depression on the other hand, often involve the Moon in the 8th or an afflicted Jupiter.
In addition to being the “culprit”, Saturn can also be afflicted itself and in fact often is in the charts of the mentally ill. For example, when positioned in the 3rd house with influence from another malefic, it often indicates severe anxiety or phobias. When debilitated and afflicted by a malefic, it is one of the indicators for both schizophrenia and bipolar, as both involve the breakdown of boundaries which Saturn represents.
Illusions and delusions – Rahu
When it comes to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, they usually involve a conjunction or a close aspect between Rahu, the indicator of illusions, delusions and excess, and the Moon which represents the mind. The houses and signs where the Moon and Rahu are located will often dictate the actual result.
In the case if bipolar, the location is most often either a dharma or kama house (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11), and the signs are either fire or water. In the case of schizophrenia, the 12th house and the signs of Aquarius and Pisces are the mist likely stage, with an additional frequently encountered indicator being an affliction of Mercury which signifies all forms of communication.
Past traumas and the unexplained – Ketu
While Rahu indicates schizophrenia proper, another combination capable of inducing hallucinations us the conjunction of the Moon with Ketu. This conjunction however is far less likely to denote a delusion, and would best be interpreted as either an influence if a chemical substance or of an electromagnetic field. Other possible indications delve into the realm of metaphysics and as such are beyond the scope of this article.
A far more common result of the influence of Ketu on the moon is various phobias, anxieties, traumas, panic attacks and even seizures such as in epilepsy. The former usually require an affliction of the 3rd house or an involvement of the 8th lord, while the latter usually also require an affliction of the 1st house which represent the brain.
Please note: the combinations discussed here cannot be used alone to predict the possibility of disease, nor should they. They are however extremely useful for confirming a diagnosis and receiving more information about the disease itself and its root cause.
