Description
The Purva (Initial) Phalguni (reddening\blushing\succulent) lunar mansion gets its name both from its symbol, the front part of a hammock or a bed, and from its deity Bhaga, the hindu version of the Canaanite Baal, the husband\owner\penetrator. One of the main themes of this mansion is the wedding, which includes the party, the dowry and of course the wedding night. Despite these, this mansion has quite a bit of a dark side and is even considered one of the cruel mansions. And if we look at its symbolism, that same exclusive possession of wealth requires selfishness for keeping it to ourselves, and even marriage requires selfishness and exclusivity for the partners to belong to each other and no one else.
In the mythological story of Arjuna, one of the heroes of the Mahabharata who was born under this mansion and was sometimes called Phalguna, he once refused to sleep with a beautiful nymph and in retaliation she cursed him to spend a year as a eunuch. This parable is great for reminding us that luxury and comfort subdue our courage and initiative, make us stagnate in our comfort zone and become a gilded cage.
