Description
The Pushya (nourishing) lunar mansion gets its name from its symbol, the cow’s udder, and like the cow itself it is considered in India to be sacred and auspicious. Both its ruler, Brihaspati, the guru of the gods and the god of planet Jupiter, and the fact that this mansion is one of the few mentioned by name in the Rigveda, emphasize the great importance given to Pushya in Hindu culture and astrology.
In the mythological story, Brihaspati was so engrossed in his work that he neglected his wife Tara, so she began an affair with the moon god resulting in the birth of mercury. This story, together with the marriage of Rama and Sita, which took place with the moon in this mansion and according to the Ramayana weren’t exactly happy and peaceful, are the reason this mansion is considered inauspicious for marriage.
Jupiter is exalted in 05:00° of Cancer in this lunar mansion, which is not surprising both do to him being the god of this mansion and due to his role as the giver of growth and abundance.
